how to survive in Germany, Deutschland without cultural barriers, best and worst of Germany
I live in Germany since 2009. I never thought life will take me here but it did. Contrary to the common opinion, I did not come here as to look for a better life. As many would think after they find out I come from Eastern Europe. No, my husband was head hunted to Germany by an English headhunting company and we ended up here.
Together with our kids we live in NRW (Nord Rhein Westfalen).
This country is everything else but the stereotypes I had when coming here. It keeps me still wondering. Everyday something happens to me that gives an insight to a real German life. And I will share with you. And you see if it has any value.
In order to be authentic, I write my own truth. I do not copy and paste. Unless I am republishing another blogger´s post but then its clearly stated. Therefore my views might not be always politically correct. I might say something people do not talk about here. Maybe its a topic it is ok to talk in the culture I come from. Maybe its the only place I could talk about it?
I have great respect for country I walk on, live in and that has become my home in the recent years. I also have made a big investment here and planning to make some more. Also, I am earning a part of my income outside Germany and spending it here so contributing to the economics of this huge and wonderful country.
I do not find it contradicting to me saying something that I do not like here. It is ok. I do not like everything also in the country I came from. And it is normal. No people no countries are perfect. And it makes a planet a beautiful place.
Hi! Thanks for following my blog! Where are you from? Linda.
LT living in Germany. Very interested in your observations cause 90% will be applicable to LT. And still if I do not like some I can writte off to pathetic LVs you know 😉 hahaha
Ha ha, good point! Will be interested in your comments also! Another Lithuanian also follows me and as you said, finds most of it applicable! I’m hoping to spend a few days in Palanga towards the end of the summer actually – will have a full report afterwards for you! 😉
I am sure you will see the worst of LT exposed in Palanga hahahaha Best of luck!!! However if you wish to be surrounded by more intelectual people better choose Nida . Best of luck in your vacation anyway 😉
Hmm, ok. I’ll do a bit of research on it! I’ll probably have to fly into Vilnius anyway so I guess I can go anywhere from there!
I like your blog a lot! Keep working and best wishes 🙂
Thanks Livija, that is pleasing to hear! 🙂 (I think my English is becoming worse at the same pace my German is getting better. I have no idea if you can say like this in English??? But I hope you got me 😀 )
Ah, I knew it! You are from another land of “books kitchenin tableon”! 😉 But I know that your languages are very similar. We had a girl in the language class who was your lands(wo)man. I used to envy her so much, as she practically didn’t have to study at all and was constantly saying, “ah, it is exactly how it is in my language” 😀
Cool blog you have here! Now I have more stuff to read for breakfast. Be prepared for lots of comments from my side, as I’m also an expat living in Germany 🙂
Thats cool! Looking forward! What is strange that I started my blog in order to help others but I ended up meeting a lot of other people surviving in Germany. It turned to be a country possible to live in hahahahahaha
Love this. I’ve just moved over to Niedersachsen and I’ve already picked up on the awful fashion in German magazines! Although I’ve found it really easy to settle here, just get a few shocks every now and then!
